Funny Farm Chaos Continues: I Forgot to Fix the Chicken Run and the Chickens Took Over

A real follow-up story from Dana’s Florida Getaways near The Villages, Florida

If you saw yesterday’s farm drama, then you already know Dolly broke the chicken run.

I fully intended to fix it.

I meant to handle it.

I absolutely planned on getting to it.

Then life happened, I got busy, and I forgot.

Which brings us to this morning.

I stepped outside and immediately wondered:

Why are all the chickens out already?

Usually, they stay in their setup until later in the day before free-ranging.

Today, they had apparently chosen independence.

Then I remembered.

I never fixed the chicken run.

And the chickens had discovered this fact long before I did.

Where Were the Chickens?

Everywhere. Absolutely everywhere.

  • Digging through my pots with fruit trees and plants looking for worms
  • Roaming around the pool area like invited guests
  • Knocking at my back door like they wanted breakfast served indoors
  • Inside the shed conducting mysterious chicken business
  • Digging holes through the grass with zero concern for appearances
  • Wandering through my other garden inspecting everything
  • One trying to make a nest inside the golf cart
  • Several spread across the property like a coordinated operation

At that point it felt less like owning chickens and more like supervising tiny escaped employees.

The Real Cause of Today’s Chaos

Yes, Dolly broke the run yesterday.

But if we are being honest… today’s chaos was caused by me forgetting to fix it.

Dolly may have opened the door, but I left it on the to-do list.

Do Chickens Know When You Forget Something?

Because they seemed unusually confident this morning.

Chicken owners, tell me the truth: do chickens somehow know the exact moment you overlook one small task?

Mine acted like they had been planning this breakout all night.
